Gender inequality is evident across small towns to urban cities across the globe. Gender Equality is much more than a necessity. It is the right of a human to be treated equally irrespective of ones gender.

Facing gender discrimination

Gender discrimination is the most common form of discrimination. “There have been so many case studies which suggest that females are paid less in comparison to their male colleagues in their workplace,” added Namit Kumar, a First Year DU student. This is one such example of gender discrimination. One’s mentality has a direct influence in the social upbringing of the people. In families if a male child is given preference over the female then it is a basic form of gender discrimination

How to enhance gender equality?
When asked how to empower gender equality, the first response of the people was to ensure there is no type of discrimination. “I feel it will be possible in the near future to bring gender equality only if people are ready to change their social mindset. The change can only come from within.” Said Sai Shivkumar, a First Year DU student.

The UN has listed 5 developmental goals to target for the same. They have incorporated laws in order to ensure a smooth functioning world wide. It consists of goals which are in favour of the females in order to empower women and to give them an equal platform to rise.
