A Small Effort Goes a Long Way

By Shreya Talwar
It is said that even if you make a small effort towards something or someone, it will help you in future. Making little efforts might help you get through something, start a conversation with somebody, or even help you grow.
Keeping this in mind I once made a tiny effort to go forward and talk to the person who is now my best friend for the past seven years. I thank my lucky stars that only some courage that I had in me, helped me start a conversation with him.
I still remember that day when it was the first day of my school when we got shifted to Bhopal and I had to change my school due to that. Studying in the same school for more than ten years did not scare me with the pressure of making new friends but it does now. I was always an introvert and did not like to open up to people, which was my main problem. The first week for me was the worst one where I could not talk to anybody. I used to come home and cry to my parents about it.
I felt helpless but then realized that if I was to make a little effort and go to somebody, it would not harm me but help me instead. That was the day I first had a conversation with a boy sitting right next to me in every class. I was very nervous, but he made it much easier for me to talk to him. It was a good day because I finally had somebody to talk to in the whole class.
That made me realize that one little initiative of mine helped me talk to somebody and make new friends.
