A walk in the past

A walk in the past
By Sasha Rastogi

A couple of days ago my cousin was visiting India from London for a vacation. I love spending time with her and one day we were just wondering and trying to make plans when suddenly I come across an ad by this company called ‘enroutindianhistory’. Wondering if it is a legitimate site, we went to the website to check it out and saw this amazing itinerary of different heritage events planned throughout the month! Out of all the amazing things in the list, one particular thing that caught our interest was “Raat ke afsaane- a night walk in Qutub Minar”.

Though there were many other things that spoke out to us like the Iftaari walk, and Havelis of Chandni Chowk, unfortunately, due to my college schedule not matching her vacation time, we settled for the Qutub night walk. Super excited we booked the tickets immediately!

Though my cousin is a Delhi resident and I visited by grandparents in Delhi, we had only seen Qutub on our way while gallivanting around Delhi. So, on the stipulated date and time we put on our walking shoes and mosquito repellent and joined the mob of people surrounding a lady who was the heritage guide. This being our first heritage walk we were super excited!

The tour was very well conducted by our guide who took us through the various ruins within the Qutub complex explaining the architecture and the history behind them which spanned from 4th to 18th century. It was incredible to know that temples and mosques existed in the same complex.

I found myself wondering how the artisans using almost nil machinery in those days crafted such intricate and beautiful architecture that has lasted centuries.

And then at dusk, the strategically placed lights lit up the whole vicinity mesmerizing us and making us completely fall in love with this symbolic masterpiece of Delhi.

We wrapped our day by having dinner at a café in the lit-up streets of Champa Gali! Would I recommend this blast to the past? Definitely!
