Army V/S Para military force in Sudan

By: Triveni Mahajan

Sudan has been a politically unstable country since its independence in 1956. There have been
2 civil wars, 7 military coups and with this 5 unsuccessful attempts of military coups. Before
2011 North Sudan and South Sudan was one whole country but under the referendum and with
the support of 98.83% voters it became independent.

The power has been always in the hands of the military general in North Sudan. In 1989 military
general Omar Al-Bashir overthrew the democratic government and took the power in his own
hands and ruled for 30 years. Since 2018 there have been a lot of protests against Omar Al-
Bashir because of the country's struggling economy and its impact on Sudanese living
conditions. Because of this people started asking Omar Al-Bashir to resign from his post and
later on 11th April 2019 he was overthrown by Sudan military chief Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and
Para military chief Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and Al-Burhan became the new leader of North
Sudan.

On 20th August 2019 a Transitional Military Council(TMC) was formed also known as the
federal government of Sudan. But in 2021 TMC was dissolved by the RSS leader and the
military chief against the civilian leaders who were the members of TMC. Now in order to
capture the ultimate power and prove their supremacy the two military leaders started this Army
v/s Para military war in North Sudan.
