Basta: The school bag

The heavy load on my back,

Filled with books, pencils & pens,

The sticker in front for some pizazz,

Adorned with keychains, bought & gifted, alike

My very own basta,

Holding so much more than just books,

The disappointing red marks in my notebooks,

The love letter that remained in the back pocket, as well

The half-hearted notes from history,

To the countless doodles made in geography

The confusing algebra problems to

My friend’s ‘Autograph’ for future

I carried the aspirations, as well as

the burden of parents’ expectations

The basta, now covered in dust,

Remains unopened, maybe one day

I’ll open it to relive my golden moments,

Both happy and sad, they belong to me.

My memories, My insecurities, My Basta
