Delhi and increasing crime

By Keshav Khemka

Delhi, the capital city of India, has been facing an increase in crime rates in recent decades. Despite the efforts made by the government and the police administration, the crime rate in Delhi seems to be on the rise in the past few years. In this blog, we will explore some of the factors that have contributed to the increase in crime in Delhi.

Factors Contributing to Increasing Crime in Delhi

Population Growth: Delhi's population has been growing at a major rate, and this has put a hold on the city's resources. As a result, there is a high rate of unemployment, poverty, and social inequalities, which have contributed to the rise in crime. Delhi has more people and resources to cater for them now.

Migration: Delhi being the capital of the country is a hub of migrants from different parts of the country. Many of these migrants are living in slums or unauthorised colonies, where they are vulnerable to exploitation and criminal activities because they don’t even get to fulfil basic human needs.

Drug Abuse: Drug abuse is a growing problem in Delhi, especially among the youth. This has led to an increase in crimes such as theft, robbery, and even murder. It is said that there are more drugs in Delhi and Mumbai than in the whole of Europe.

Weak Law Enforcement: Despite the presence of a large police force, there is a lack of effective police enforcement in Delhi. Many crimes go unreported, and those that are reported are not always followed up on. People of Delhi in fact say that when they report a crime police force does not take action.

Conclusion
The increase in crime in Delhi is a cause of concern for the citizens as well as the government and even the country because Delhi being the capital of the country its image is draining due to the higher crime rate. It is important to understand the factors that contribute to the rise in crime and take measures to tackle them immediately. The government and the police force need to work together to create a safe and secure environment for the people of Delhi. It is only through a collective effort that the issue of increasing crime rates in Delhi can be tackled fast and effectively.
