The finals of Women’s Premier League or WPL was played this Sunday, the inaugural edition of WPL was coming to a close. After an exciting and thrilling 1st season of WPL It finally came down to the two best performers of the tournament who were Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. Two veteran franchises of IPL now had to battle it out for the women’s title. The game was played in the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai with a sold out crowd.

The toss was won by DC who decided to bat first. The MI bowling though went on a rampage giving absolutely no chance to DC batters to settle and the wickets started to fell like a pack of cards but it was the DC opener Meg Lanning who stood strong at one end of the crease and made a gritty 35 runs of 29 balls and with some important contributions from Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav, Delhi was able to reach a respectable total of 131 runs at the cost of 9 wickets.

The onus was now on the Delhi bowling to defend the total and claim the first ever WPL title, Delhi had a dream start in the 2nd innings as they took 2 wickets in quick succession putting MI on back foot but after this it was only Natalie Sciver and her bat who did the talking who scored a splendid 60 runs of 55 balls putting MI right at the brink of Victory and along with the skipper Harmanpreet Kaur who also scored 37 runs MI cruised to victory in a tightly contested match and definitely a memorable one for the fans. Mumbai Indians created history by becoming the first ever WPL champions.
