How to remain calm when under stress

“People lose their ability to think clearly and their thoughts get clouded when they are under stress,” says Daniel Levintin, a neuroscientist . Release of cortisol raises the heart rate, marginates adrenaline level and clouds human thoughts.

In his TED Talk, Levintin spoke on “How to stay calm when you know you’ll be stressed”. Pre-mortem is looking into the future and trying to figure out what could go wrong and what to do to avoid or minimise the effect of the problem.

What happens to your body when under stress?

1. Brain releases a hormone called cortisol
2. Cortisol is responsible for increase in heart rate
3. It also increases adrenaline level
4. Clouds human thinking

Measures to avoid stress:

  • To designate a place for things that are easily lost in the house
  • Take a cellphone picture of all the credit cards and passport and mail them to yourself for back up
  • One has to realise the fact that under stress one’s thoughts get clouded specially while making a medical decision
  • Think beforehand about the situation which we may come across
