Introspection

By Sumaira Berry

“You are what you surround yourself with.”

It took me way too long to realize the value that this phrase comes attached with, but now that I have, lets just take a moment to look around and about us- the people we surround ourselves with.

Women friendships, there’s something about them, something I never knew that I’d fall in love with so bad, and something that I should’ve understood long back before I started to lose the value of friendships in my life because of the long-lost betrayals. But then I guess it was universe’s way of somehow getting me back to my home-women, including the times I pushed them away, including the times they still saved me when I didn’t even want to be saved from anything and everything.

It’s the way we pick phrases from each other and they somehow become a part of us, it’s the small things you remember about each other, its knowing exactly what’s needed by just looking at each other, it’s so much so small that mean so much so big, it’s the way they pick you everytime when you fall hard, it’s the lazy days spent in comfortable silence, tearful nights spent giving each other a reason to live, it’s the inside jokes that follow me long after you've gone, reminding me to slow down and laugh a little more, it’s the way the shine in their eyes when they laugh somehow gives me a very underrated warmth.

Oh, I could go all day long stating the love my heart holds for my home-team and the exhilarating feeling that these friendships come with. So, to all my rays of sunshine, and who by the way all are legit scattered in different locations as and when I type this, I hope you know that baaki mere usual dukh dard ka toh patani, but atleast I somehow win at life in bits and pieces with all of you by my side.
