Just Christian school things

By Pratishtha Agrawal

Uniform: Do you remember how our uniform must be proper always? T-shirt tucked in, socks almost rolled up to the knees, shoes polished to perfection. Some of the kids even cleaned their shoes by rubbing them against the back of their pants so that they don’t get caught in the assembly by the uniform checker.
Braids: We girls have never had the opportunity to create any other hairstyle than two braids. Our whole 12/14 years we have just done one hairstyle- “Braids”.
Principal: Our principals are usually fathers or sisters(nuns). We had always seen them in their gowns but when the first time I saw our principal (father) in regular clothes I was amazed (I was amazed at that time because I was younger).
Prayer: The daily opening prayer was “Our Father”. Even though we sang it every day in the morning assembly, many of my classmates were not able to remember it and had to read it from their school diary. And you know whenever I with my cousins would watch any Hollywood horror movie and when the priest would say the prayer, I would start saying it as well, and all the cousins would look at me. It was a lot of fun.
Church: Visiting the school church was a lot of fun. Many of us used to follow the ritual to pray in the church, and neither of us knew if we did it right or wrong but following the process was interesting.
Christmas: The celebration of Christmas was the best. The decoration used to be like ravishing. And we used to get four holidays of Christmas, unlike Holi for which we used to get only one.
The myth: It is a myth that Christian school teachers are all nuns and that the students who study here are extremely disciplined- not all are!
Studying at a Christian school was an entirely different experience, and it was so much fun.
