Lines with Rhyming Words

I had never thought that the poems I used to scribble in my diary, would get to be published in a book called ‘Pens and Portraits’. It contains poems I have written since as little girl to a young adult. To reach the same destination, people have different beginnings. And my journey of writing, has its own different start.
Random Rhymes
‘Give your mind a little spin,
Then it might show you where to begin.’
Sometimes, thoughts in your mind are not in your control like your reflex actions. Similarly, my journey of writing poems actually started quite randomly. I used to be amazed by the rhyming poems in my English textbooks in school.
Then class VI, I was on my way to visit our village with my family in the car. I got bored so I looked out and saw the stars in the night sky. I don’t know how automatically I started to think of words which rhymed with the word stars and thought of two lines. I recited it and my mom smiled and said that I was actually writing a poem.
Age of Adolescence andAdulthood
‘When you grow up, you start to realize,
That the world is not always nice.’
At first, I couldn’t think of topics to write about so I wrote on topics my mom suggested. Then I got older, and as people say, life happened. Crushes, heartbreaks, happiness and family tragedies, shaped me as a person from adolescence to ongoing so-called adulthood.
My mental health took a toll in my late teens which lead to self-inflicted emotional torture. One of my healing methods was to write my pain through my pen. That’s when I started writing dark but deep meaning poems.
Amrybrat in the Armed Forces
‘In the war, a soldier has to stay strong,
As his family prays for him to live long.’
Being an armybrat has been a huge part of my life and identity. Travelling to live in different places every few years, was a learning experience. Hearing stories from my father and his colleagues, always made me feel emotional but proud to be a part of this big family, the Armed Forces. I hoped that by writing about the army life, I could do my part in contributing to this family.
The Highlights
Some lines from my poems that I am proud of-
-‘Only the pillows know,
The secret tears which you don’t show.’
-‘I take a breath and close my eyes,
Thinking better with no sight,
My mind has now become clear,
As I take a step towards the light.’
-‘Dil Bechara’ was his last movie,
Where his character’s death was untimely.
People cried after Manny’s demise,
Which hurt even more as in reality Sushant too, was not alive.’
-‘Wives of the brave martyrs,
They rise up fighting through the tears.
Some make a powerful comeback,
With them or their kids joining the ranks.’
-‘Is this the peace and harmony about which we talk?
As towards the war they walk.’
