My First Poetry Show

My First Poetry Show
By Sharva Srivastava

Have you ever been to a poetry show? No? Let me tell you, poetry shows are so underrated.

I was coming back to Lucknow, and I received a notification on book my show, "Ashish Bagrecha Live."
I ignored it in the first instance, but later, when I relaxed on the train and switched off the lights, I realised that I should visit the show. The college schedule was hectic in the past few days as there were a lot of events, assignments, sleepless nights, meetings, and whatnot, so I wanted to give myself some time by visiting my home.

My parents surprisingly allowed me to go; otherwise, every time they would tell me, "Tum ghar itne kam dino ke liye aati ho, usme bhi ghumna hai." I called one of my school friends to accompany me; we booked our tickets and went to the show.

The show was on the ground floor of a mall; we rushed to the entrance to get the front-row seats, but unfortunately, those were already taken. The seating arrangement was in a large semi-circle with a stage in front, and the title of the show was eye-catching: "Pyaar, Umeed, aur Roshni."

We could not get the front-row seats, but we got side-row front seats, and after getting seated, I got excited; my stomach was full of butterflies, as the whole vibe of the show was so pleasing. We waited for 15 minutes, and then the main man entered the stage, "Ashish Bagrecha."

I was never fond of poetry, but lately, he has appeared a lot on my Instagram feed; he has a huge fan following of 1 million followers and recites his own compositions on reels, which a lot of people relate to.

The whole show was of 90 minutes, and he did not disappoint any of his audience. He narrated a story inspired by his life, his experiences, and lessons about love, hope, and light; that is where the title of the show comes from, "Pyaar, Umeed, aur Roshni."

At the end of the show, we took a group photograph, and he met his fans. I was the first one in the queue, and he shook hands with me, asking, "Apka naam?" and I felt all the jitters in my body. After replying to him, he hugged me, and said, "Shukriya, aj aane ke liye," and we took a photo.

He taught us five lessons from his story:
1. Pyaar kishton mei milta hai
2. Shuruwat mei toh bas chahat hoti hai, bahut lambe waqt ke baad mohabbat hoti hai
3. Pyaar mei reassure karna bahut zaroori hai
4. Pyaar mei badlunga nahi, pyaar mei behtar banunga
5. Kahi baar pyaar ko jaane Dena bhi pyaar hota hai

Later, I realized while going to sleep that "khud se safed ishq karna bahut zaroori hota hai" as he mentioned in his poem, loving yourself is a need in today’s world.

We cried, laughed, and felt loved by Ashish Bagrecha, an artist so down to earth.
