Pocket Hercules of India

By Ubaid Arora

Manohar Aich, also known as Pocket Hercules, was a renowned Indian bodybuilder and Mr. Universe winner. He was born on March 17, 1912, in West Bengal, India. He passed away on June 5, 2016, at the age of 104.

Manohar Aich began his career as a wrestler but later switched to bodybuilding. He was a self-taught bodybuilder who used his own methods to train his body. He used to perform various exercises like push-ups, pull-ups, and squats to build his physique. He was a vegetarian and believed in natural foods to build muscle mass.

In 1950, Manohar Aich won the Mr. Hercules contest, which was his first major bodybuilding competition. He went on to win several other titles, including Mr. Eastern India, Mr. India, and Mr. Universe. He became the first Indian to win the Mr. Universe title in 1952, a feat that was considered almost impossible at that time.

Despite being a successful bodybuilder, Manohar Aich faced many challenges in his life. He was born into a poor family and had to work odd jobs to make ends meet. He also had to face discrimination due to his short stature, which earned him the nickname "Pocket Hercules." However, he did not let any of these challenges stop him from pursuing his dreams.

Manohar Aich was not just a bodybuilder, but also a dedicated family man. He had a wife and three children, and he always made sure to spend time with them. He also used his success to inspire others, especially the younger generation, to take up bodybuilding and pursue their dreams.

Manohar Aich's legacy lives on even today, long after his passing. He was an inspiration to many, and his determination, hard work, and perseverance continue to inspire people all over the world. His story is a testament to the fact that with hard work, dedication, and a never-give-up attitude, anything is possible.
