Virat's 82 admiring Mahi's 2011 special

Well, I think every Indian cricket fan still hears Ravi Shastri's impassioned commentary from 2011: "Dhoni, closes it off in style, India lifts the World Cup after 28 years." A 28-year trophy drought was broken by Dhoni's six that day, which gave a billion Indians something truly spectacular to celebrate in front of a full Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Virat Kohli, a member of the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian team, offered a fitting homage to Dhoni on Sunday (April 2, 2023), the 12-year anniversary of Team India's victory.

Virat ended the game in spectacular fashion by hitting a massive six, a shot that was eerily reminiscent of MS Dhoni's shot on the day India won the World Cup, to seal the victory for RCB with 6 runs needed off 3.5 overs.

At 82, Virat still had not lost a wicket. His innings had six fours and five sixes. At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB crushed Mumbai Indians by eight wickets thanks to electrifying innings played by Faf du Plessis and Virat.

Virat will play in his fourth World Cup when India hosts the ODI World Cup in October-November of this year. Virat has scored the second most runs for India overall in the ODI World Cup. He has scored 1030 runs in 26 World Cup games at an average of almost 50 which includes 2 centuries and 6 fifties.

For the Indian team, the ICC events have been a source of frustration, and Virat Kohli's decision to step down as captain was largely attributed to this. Rohit did not participate in the 2011 World Cup-winning team, but Virat did. In the 2015 as well as 2019 iterations, both participated.

Well, we can just hope that the curse of 12 years will be broken under Rohit’s captaincy and team India will lift the World Cup once again
