Sapling for Life : Gift of the girl child
As mining activities destroyed the ecology of the tiny village of Piplantri, one man took it on himself to build back better. With an aim to regrow the flora and fauna, he also wanted to decimate the vicious practice of girl child foeticide in his village.
Dubbed the Piplantri model nationwide, Shyam Sundar set out to plant 111trees for every girl child born in the village, thereby giving life to the environment and to the girl child.
