Akshay Patra: 3bn smiles achieved, many more to go!
It is rightly said that children are a gift of God and anything done with a pure heart for them proves to be a blessing. Many organizations are working for the betterment of children. One such organization is the Akshay Patra Foundation which provides mid-day meals to children all over India.

Bennett’s social service club, Alexis recently organized a trip for the club members to Vrindavan in collaboration with The Akshay Patra Foundation. On the occasion of completing their 3 billion meals, they invited over 100 schools.

Different colleges but one purpose

Several students from different colleges came forward and volunteered for the big event. Students from colleges like Hansraj, SRCC, and KMC were present there. On the first day, students were divided into different teams. The teams were named after different colors and they consisted of a mixed batch of students from all colleges. The team leaders made sure that each student knew what work they had to do the next day. They were also given hoodies and ID cards from the Foundation’s side.

“The experience was great! Met so many different people and the fact all the colleges were working so hard to put up an event was itself such a heartwarming feeling,” said Simran Agarwal, a volunteer from Bennett University.

Many interactive activities were also conducted so that students get to know other colleges better. Even the allotment of rooms was done in this way. All this was done to make them realize that no matter which college one belongs to, their main purpose was the same.

All smiles on day 2

On day 2, girls and boys were given different duties. Boys had to wake up early and go to different schools to pick up students and bring them to the venue and girls had to serve food to the kids and had to make sure that they were eating properly. Each team had a different set of schools and teachers and volunteers had to manage it all. Once the breakfast was over, volunteers had to take them to the pandal where the main event was happening. The event became even more happening when PM Narendra Modi along with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Hema Malini came up on stage and spoke about the event. In the end, children were taken back and served lunch. Some children were lucky enough to get food served by the PM himself.

All’s well if it ends well

“Handling a team of 100 people, who managed the crowd of 5000 people was once in a lifetime opportunity. Felt extremely satisfied after the 2-day tiring event,” said Mayank Tripathy, secretary of Alexis and also a team leader of the event. Happiness was all over the place and volunteers, although were extremely tired due to hard work, had a sense of satisfaction on their faces. Later, CEO of Akshay Patra congratulated all the volunteers and thanked them for their contribution. It can be easily said that the event was definitely a huge success and left smiles on the faces of all the people present there.

Such foundations make us believe that there’s still so much humanity left in the world and so much can be done if one has the will and determination to do it. After all who doesn’t like to see beautiful smiles on the faces of little children?
