“Spoken words can launch revolutions,” saidAnil Srivatsa , the Chief Executive Officer at Sochcast Media Pvt. Ltd., while speaking to second-year students at the Times School of Media (TSOM), on the art of podcasting .
Srivatsa, a popular podcaster and former RJ, said in his professional journey, he did a variety of odd jobs, before his career as an RJ took off: from being a pizza delivery boy to being a street vendor.
Devoted and committed to his ambitions, Srivatsa rose from being an RJ to becoming the Chief Operating Officer ofRadio Today and the Chief Executive Officer of Kings XI Punjab . Later, he successfully co-founded Radiowalla.in, a digital audio and content company.
Technology is the key
As Srivatsa walked the students through the journey of his life, he encouraged them to strengthen their knowledge of technology to survive in the media industry. “If you don’t keep pace with technology, you will find yourself left behind in the industry,” he said.
Responding to a question on selecting content for the target audience, Srivatsa advised students to do what comes naturally to them. “Aapka jo hunar hai, vahi se shuru kijiye (begin from where your skills lie),” he said.

“To be successful in this media, you need to be listened to i.e., Saraswathi, you need to be monetized i.e., Lakshmi. Keep your Saraswathi strong, Lakshmi will follow.”
Responding to a question on generating unique content for a podcast, Srivatsa said, “All content is unique, and one should always focus on the delivery of the content and pick the strongest language to connect with the audience.”
