Third-year students of B.Tech, Bennett University, won the two-day Batti Gul contest held on January 9 and 10. The winning team was awarded Amazon gift vouchers, BU T-shirts, and a chance for direct entry into Sports BU.

Students who were part of the winning team were Rakshak Raina, Rajat Dixit, Piyush Yadav and Mukund Mundhra.
Talking about the team’s win, Rajat Dixit said, “The event was pretty interesting. We had a setback in the first round as we finished last. In a hurry to answer the questions first, we got them wrong. But we did not lose hope as we had two more rounds to bounce back. In the second round, we finished first by designing an amazing logo. The third round was a little tricky but we managed to come up with a strategy and won first place. We were then declared the overall winners.”

Batti Gul was a team-based competition organised by Sports BU in which eight teams had participated. The teams were tested on their knowledge of sports, movies inspired by sports, creativity, and design skills.

There were three rounds of competition and for each round, the teams were evaluated on teamwork, uniqueness of ideas, knowledge, and communication skills. The first round was the quiz round which had two parts: one was a quiz on sports, the second part was on popular music tracks of sports-based films. Some of the questions that were in the first round included who was the first ODI Captain of the Indian Team, who was the first Indian to have won the World Amateur Billiards title, among others. The quiz was conducted on Minti.com. The faster a team answered, the more points it earned.

Now, coming to the second round, the contestants were asked to design a logo for Sports BU in under 40 minutes. The designs could be made digitally or on paper. The designs were then uploaded on Sports BU’s Twitter handle and were required to earn at least 10 likes each. They were judged on various criteria like the uniqueness of the design, presentation, and appeal.

In the third and final round, the participants were asked to pitch ideas for a sports-based competition in under 30 minutes. The factors on which the teams were judged included presentation and soft skills, evaluation of the event idea, and whether or not it was creative. The idea that was adjudged the winner in the final round was called ‘And Sold.' As per the winning idea, the competition was based on sports and it had two parts. Part one was a cricket quiz, and the second part was a bidding game of cricket players.

“It was an amazing event and so were the participants. Their enthusiasm has motivated me to keep doing such wonderful events in the future,” said Rutvi Mehta, a member of the organising committee.

The event was received well by not only sports enthusiasts but also other students. All in all, it was a success and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
