Greater Noida: On Day One of Bennett University's Sportikon 2024, the badminton courts took centre stage, teeming with intense competition. Hosted by the dedicated Sports Committee, this event marked a crucial juncture in the university's sporting legacy. Building on the triumph of Sportikon 2023, this edition brought more participants into the arena, promising a day of matches that highlighted sporting expertise and tactical finesse.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Bhartiya Vidyapeeth Dominates Early Matches

The day kicked off with a stellar performance by Bhartiya Vidyapeeth (BV), securing victories in both singles and doubles against MIMT. Their consistent performance set the tone for a day filled with excitement.

Sharda's Triumphs

Sharda University proved to be a force to be reckoned with as they claimed victory in a closely contested battle against VIPS. The highlight was Sanidhya Singh's remarkable comeback against Akshay Pandey, drawing cheers from an extensively engaged crowd.

BML Munjal's Dominance

BML Munjal University showcased dominance, clinching wins in both singles and doubles against GLA Mathura. The duo of Shubham Patel and Samar Sharma displayed tenacity in an intense doubles match, adding a thrilling chapter to the day's events.

Bennett's Winning Streak

Bennett University emerged as a powerhouse, securing victories against OP Jindal and MIMT. Sanidhya Singh's performance against Jindal added to the university's impressive run, setting the stage for upcoming matches.

Satvik Parashar, GBU

Satvik Parashar showcased exceptional skills in a gripping match against Vignesh Iyer from Amity University. In a post-match statement, he expressed gratitude for the experience and looked forward to maintaining his performance in upcoming matches. "It was a great experience playing here. My first match went well, but my opponent was skilled too. I hope my upcoming matches go well too, and I don't make any mistakes. Thankful to Sportikon 2024 and Bennett University," said Satvik, reflecting on the intensity of the competition and acknowledging the level of skill displayed by his opponent.

Sanidhya Singh's remarkable comeback against OP Jindal’s Akshay Pandey emerged as a standout moment during the day's proceedings. The atmosphere around the court buzzed with excitement as the crowd passionately supported their respective teams. Sanidhya graciously shared his perspective on the pressure and determination that propelled him to victory. "Representing Bennett for the first match, there was a lot of pressure. I lost my first set, still, I did not lose my confidence and won the next 2 sets," he said.

Shubham Patel, BML Munjal

Shubham Patel emerged as a key player in the heated battle against GBU, contributing significantly to the team's performance. His partnership with Samar Sharma in the double’s showdown added another layer of intensity to the event. Despite the challenging nature of the match, Patel stressed the importance of enhanced preparation for future encounters. "The match was incredibly intense. They skilfully turned the game around even when it seemed they were losing control. It was a tough fight, and we need to step up our preparation for the upcoming matches; this one caught us off guard," Shubham remarked.

Sportikon 2024 promises many more thrilling badminton matches in the next three days as universities continue to vie for supremacy on the court.
