Students wish to know what an institution has got in store for them, and the best ones to ask about this are the alumni. Keeping this in mind, Bennett Alumni Relations organized a talk show, #BeYouatBU, on February 27 via YouTube live.
The show was themed (in Hindi) ‘Voh din bhi kya din the’ (‘Those were the days’), aiming to take the alumni guests down the memory lane and give voice to those memories, struggles and achievements.
The guests for the show were scholars from different schools and fields, including Sonali Datt, MBA scholar who graduated in 2019; Nandana Varshney, sports and academics performer who graduated in 2020; and Japna Batra, co-curriculum enthusiast and one of the star academic performers who graduated in 2020. All the three guests shared their struggles and achievements.
Sonali Datt was in the first batch of graduates of BU and being the senior-most amongst the three guests, she had a lot to share about her journey of getting enrolled into the MBA course in BU. Being dedicated to academics, she shared the tips that helped her balance studies and fun in college life. Till date, she said, she follows the same dedication. She is presently working in KPMG Global Services.
The gold medallist for batch of 2021 in B.Tech, Nandana Varshney shared her story of perfect balance between sports and academics, the help and guidance from the university and the never-ending enthusiasm to win. She is presently pursuing MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur.

The event commenced with a welcome speech by the club’s vice-president (publicity), Somya Goel, who is a law student. It was further taken over by Avni Daga, head of alumni relations. From the introduction of the guests to the final closing, the show was divided into multiple segments, ensuring a wholistic approach to answer the various questions that a student might have. The segments ranged from college and expertise journey to support by university and question-answer round. The show had a fun segment too, where the guest alumni were expected to answer questions related to Bollywood within seven seconds.
“It has been a rollercoaster journey because we are still in the establishing phase for alumni relations, so a lot of expectations are attached to any big or small decision taken,” said Avni Daga.
She added, “For this talk show, #BeYouatBU, the theme was given by one of our team members and we built upon it. There were many changes till the last moment, however we pulled it off well. The guests were very cooperative and more than happy to talk about their journey. I felt tinge of excitement and nervousness as this was a bigger than just an Instagram post and we had to make a mark for the department.”
Somya Goel said, “We did not want to keep the show very formal and that is the reason we kept the fun segment, which I believe helped to maintain the balance.”
