Are you a job seeker? Do you find it difficult to make a resume to suit the job description? What if there was a website that would take the hassle of making the perfect resume? Bennett Univerisity’s B.Tech CSE students Manmeet Sethi and Rajveer Beerda have done just that. They have launched their unique start-up which designs tailored resumes for specific jobs in a matter of minutes.

Their initiative, called Bespoke Resume, is a web application where users get resumes made according to the type of job they are applying. It started with just resumes, but today it offers multiple features making it the one-stop destination catering to all job-hunting requirements. These include cover letters, LinkedIn invite templates, a job application tracker, among others. “Last year we were working for a start-up where I was given the responsibility to hire interns for them. Through that experience, I first-hand learned the mistakes people make when applying for jobs and internships. Since I had previous experience in Natural Language Processing, I knew we could create something that could help these job seekers on multiple fronts, starting with tailored resumes,” says Sethi.

Being able to manage a start-up while handling the stress of assignments and internships is not a cup of tea. “We usually work in the evenings and on weekends for this project. Since the last semester, the college has been remote so that has opened some more time for us,” explains Beerda. At one point, both were working two internships which affected their speed, but they pushed through and continued to make progress with their start-up.

Sharing their experience, Beerda and Sethi explained how they have learnt about the start-up ecosystem and the many domain-specific skills by working on Bespoke Resume. They say nothing matches the satisfaction of when their users reach out to them to let them know how they got a job using their platform. This is what motivates them and keeps them going.

Within the short time, it has gone live, Bespoke Resume already has more than 100 users from seven to eight countries. One of the biggest achievements for the platform has been making it to the Y-Combinator's final interviews. “Less than five percent of applicants globally make it to this stage so we were really happy we could, that was a really great experience,” they explain.

In the pandemic situation, when people are losing jobs and finding it difficult to find new ones, Sethi and Beerda aim to make the tool as usable as they can. They say the platform can really make a difference and help a lot of people in these difficult times. There are multiple directions where they might head with this in the future but as of now, their sole focus remains to make the tool reach a greater audience.
