BU students perform Nukkad Natak ‘Karma’
Ansh, the drama club of Bennett University, presented a nukkad natak (street play) entitled ‘Karma’ on Tuesday 21 August 2018 on campus. The play was about a mother-child relationship and described the love, care and compassion with which a mother raises her child. It also focussed on children neglecting their parents and regretting the decision.

Aastha Kharre, student of School of Management, second year, who played the role of the mother, gave an outstanding performance. The children, Lalit, Mrigang, Taru, Gauri and others, were full of energy and spirit. The play included one qawwali and a song written by Rishi Garg, B. Tech third-year student. The lyrics of the qawwali, ‘Aish hai bhai aish hai,’ (Life is full of leisure), were heart touching and the intensity and energy with which it was sung added on their charm. Students enjoyed the closing song, ‘Jhula Jhulati thi’ (Once she used to rock me in the cradle) that brought tears in their eyes. The scripting and direction of ‘Karma’ was by third-year B Tech student Rishi Garg, who is also the secretary of the club.

Close to 200 students watched the play which some said they could relate to very well. Journalism and Mass communication student Poorva Singh Rathore said, “The nukkad natak was a perfect blend of emotions and energy. I liked the dialogue delivery of Lalit and Shaurya, it appeared to be real.” She added that such activities remove stage fear. “I am looking forward to act in such plays.”

Rishi said the club started with just 30 members and now has 150 members. Ansh works across various genres like street play, skit and stand-up comedy.
