Students get a crash course in photography
ISAC, the Photography Club of Bennett University, organised a workshop ‘Basics of Photography’ on Thursday 30 August 2018 that was led by Canon India’s Executive (Marketing Programmes) Virendra Singh. Around 40 students from different schools participated in the workshop that covered fundamentals of colour photography and also introduced techniques for mobile photography.

Singh, who has been with Canon for close to seven years, started the workshop by questioning students about their approach to photography. He declared that “beginners are the best photographers”. Mr. Singh exhibited new frames by changing photo angles. He also demonstrated how to technically control images. Singh gave valuable tips on mobile photography by showing how to take aesthetic pictures even with a low quality camera. He stated, “The quality of photograph is defined by your passion, not the quality of camera you use.”

During the workshop, Singh shared the famous landscape photographer Ansel Adams’s words: “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” A good photograph requires knowledge about the equipment and analysing and visualising the subject.

Students posed several questions to Singh on composition and visualisation of images. Bhavya Patunjal from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, who is the Club Secretary, said that when he asked the students for a single word that defined the workshop, most said – “Informative”.
