BU’s basketball team misses it by a whisker
Bennett University’s sports fest had it first ever Basketball winner- Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), who managed to defeat Bennett University in a neck-to-neck fight. LNIPE won the finals by maintaining a lead which resulted in the final score of 64-46.

Bennett University hosted its first ever inter-college sports fest- Expedite. More than 16 universities and colleges participated in the given sports, namely- Football, Basketball, Badminton and Volleyball. With close to 400 participants from different universities, a total of Rs. 1.4 lakhs were up for grabs.

The basketball tournament was divided into three days, with knockout matches scheduled for the first two days. All the colleges tried their level best to show their basketball skills and reach the finals. After the knockout matches only four teams reached the semi-finals scheduled for Day-3. The teams which made it to semi-finals were- Shiv Nadar University, Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), SRM University and Bennett University.

The semi-finals were a whole different ball game in itself. The first semi-final match was scheduled between Shiv Nadar University and Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education. It was easy for LNIPE to defeat Shiv Nadar University and advance to the finals. The next semi-final match was fought between Bennett University and SRM University. It was Bennett University to advance to the finals by showing their optimum balling skills.

Before the final match it was time for the battle for the 3rd position. SRM University and SNU locked horns to compete for the 3rd place. It was a one-sided match as SNU easily glided towards victory by defeating SNU.

It was now time for the finally battle. Both the finalists- Bennett University and LNIPE stepped into the court with their best foot forward. The match started with LNIPE scoring and getting a lead of 4 points. Bennett was not way behind and easily covered the gap by scoring a few baskets. As the match moved forward both the teams tried their level best to maintain a lead. The crowd was equally excited and cheered for their favorite team.

As the match moved forward, LNIPE managed to maintain a lead which made them win the match 63-46. Bennett University gave their best but missed the title of the winners by a whisker.

Sarthak Biyani, a member of Bennett University’s playing-5 said, “It was a neck-to-neck game. We gave our best, but destiny had something else planned for us. We definitely learnt for our mistakes and will improve them and come back again even stronger the next time.”
