BU’s techfest Zenivia’s VPL commences from March 23rd

The Valorant Premier League (VPL), a gaming tournament, conducted by Zenevia, Bennett University’s techfest commenced on March 23rd, 2021 with their first round of group stage matches.

Valorant Premier League is an online gaming tournament based on the online multiplayer game Valorant. The event is being conducted by BU Gamers, the gaming club at Bennett University.

The event was streamed live on YouTube and started at 8pm sharp with a small address from the organisers, before entering right into the group stage matches. Four battles took place in round 1. The fixture for day 1 was: Match 1, Stepbros vs At Sour Six, Match 2, Baba Seer vs The Boosted, Match 3, The Collective vs Reflex to Extreme and Match 4, Skeptics vs Vrime Pandals.

Through the course of the battles, commentary by BU students Shiv Gupta, B.Tech CSE 1st year and Saustav Roy, B.Tech CSE 2nd year, kept the audience pumped and engaged. The live chat, too, was active with students cheering on for their favourite teams and players.




The rounds started after the auctions for the players took place on March 8-March 9. Each team leader was given 10,000 points to place their bids and win the best players for their teams.The eight teams created were, At Your Six, The Boosted, Vrime Pandals, The Collective, Skeptics, Baba Seer, Stepbros, and Reflex To Extreme.

“After the adrenaline filled online auction, it was finally the time to see how good the purchases were. The players were excited for the action-packed evening full of gaming extravaganza. So, in all a great start to the Valorant Premier League,” said Riya Paliwal from the BU Gamers organizing committee.

The updates about the fixtures and the standings are being posted on BU Gamers’ Instagram page. The final standings after day 1 are shown in the picture.

Zeel Patel, a player from the team 'At Your Six' shared his experience and said, “The tournament is very well managed by the BU Gamers team and the match experience has been immensely professional till now. It is hands down one of the best and most properly managed gaming events I've attended.”

The group stage matches are to go on for another seven rounds, one round each day till March 30th. Each round is scheduled to have four battles with different combinations among the eight teams. March 31st will see the first qualifier round, and the eliminator round. The second qualifier round will be held on April first, and the finals, which will be best of 5, on April 2nd. The finals will be streamed on the YouTube channel ‘UltimateNoob,’ the official streaming partner.

The tournament, which is part of Zenevia, Bennett University’s ongoing techfest, is in full swing and truly is a gamer’s delight.
