Divas wear sportswomen’s caps at Bennett University
It was a beautiful morning here at Bennett University on Saturday. Twenty beauty pageant contestants of the event, Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva , 2018 wearing outfits styled by clothes retailer ‘Central’ arrived at the BU campus in the morning and took part in various sports competitions as part of their daylong Sports Day at the university’s sports complex.
More than the competitive spirit, there was camaraderie and joy writ large on the faces of the contestants as they alighted from their bus.
Battling it out on the field
The contestants had to battle it out in six sports events, basketball (Miss Hooper), badminton (Miss Smasher), table tennis (Miss Topspin), swimming (Miss Waterbaby) and gym activities (Miss Iron Maiden).
Each event had a knockout session, following which the winners advanced to the semi-finals and finals.
The first event was basketball, and Venus Malik from Bengaluru walked away with the title of Miss Hooper.
Then the 20 contestants had to prove themselves in badminton and table tennis. While Aditi Hundia from Jaipur won the title of Miss Smasher (Badminton), Roshni Sheoran from Lucknow won the title of Miss Topspin (Table Tennis).
Surina Jaidka from New Delhi swam her way to the victory stand and was crowned Miss Waterbaby.
The toughest of the events came at the end with contestants battling it out for the Miss Active title. The contestants were pushed to the edge and made to do several running drills, jumping and squats. The last one standing, Aditi Shetty from Mangalore, was crowned Miss Active.
Aditi Shetty turned out to be the beauty with abundant talent for sports as she bagged the Miss Iron Maiden title as well.
Crowd, contestants cheered on
Arnav, a first-year mass communication student said, “I am very happy that I got a chance to see the Miss Diva contestants live participating in the events. This is a rare opportunity. They have represented India on a global level and to hear them speak of their experience teaches us a lot.”
Hannah Reji, a contestant from Kochi, said, “We’re grateful to all the staff and volunteers here for all their support. The hospitality we have received here is commendable.”
Vineet Nehra, Bennett University’s Sports Officer, said, “The girls seem really energetic and are enjoying the events. The Bennett student volunteers are also doing quite an impressive job managing the whole event. I’m very happy seeing all this.”
