Fitness is no longer a dream but a lifestyle need
It is said a person who is fit is capable of living life to its fullest extent. Bennett University organised this semester’s first fitness workshop on Thursday evening at the BU football ground.

Individual exercises
The workshop started with knee, leg, hand, belly stretching as these exercises keep muscles flexible, strong and healthy. Each stretching exercise was to be performed 10 times. Though many people didn’t turn up but those who turned up were very energetic. After this the participants were told to walk, jog and run for several turns. Now it was time for the scotch jump. Sambhav Bhandari a badminton player of 2nd year B.Tech said, “I enjoyed the fitness workshop a lot specially the scotch jump.’’

Fun exercises
Walking and standing lunges were next in row followed by the spiderman walk which added more enthusiasm among the participants. The instructor Pankaj Jhawar instructed the participants to perform 15 burpees each. Burpees is a full body exercise used in strength training. The basic movement is performed in four steps. Shivaye Bahl, a freshmen of B.Tech said, “I had performed other exercises earlier. But it was the first time when I performed burpees. I really enjoyed the workshop and I am happy that I got to learn something new.

Partner Exercises
Now it was time for some partner exercises.First one was whole body exercise. Many of them found this to be a tiring exercise. Next in row was pair jumping jacks one partner had to jump over the other partner and repeat several times. Baby crawling exercise was one to watch out. It was even a partner exercise. Partners had immense fun while performing this exercise.

Motive behind the workshop
BU Sports Officer Vineet Nehra said, “Though less number of participants turned up than expected but sessions like these are a must. The main motive behind these exercises was to make students realise that they don’t need any equipment to remain fit and this session was especially for those people who complain that they don’t have equipments. I wish each one of them to keep working and stay healthy.’’

Last few minutes of the workshop
The instructors instructed the students to form a straight line and then the participants performed running between the lines exercise. After this for next 30 seconds the participants performed power plank and after it for 25 seconds they performed normal plank. Participants were given a break for 20 seconds. Mohit Bhat, a 1st year B.Tech student said, “Plank is a great exercise for strengthening deep inner core and I enjoyed it the most.’’

Now it was time for the last exercise in which participants had to form a circle. The last exercise was divided in four sets each set was of 20 seconds. First set among them being squat, second one being burpees. Followed by mountain climbing and plank. The workshop came to an end with a breakoff. All participants proudly saying Jai Hind. Sarthak Seth who is a basketball player of 2 nd Year said, “Everyone should attend fitness workshops. They are of great help. I would next time urge my friends to come with me.”

Pankaj Jhawar said, “It was fun training the participants. I wish they continue with it and I wish them a healthy life.”
