How to ensure your facts are credible
Bennett University held a video conference session in association with Times Internet wherein Eoghan Sweeney of First Draft News.org explained how one can check the credibility of their facts and content.

He started off by stating the importance of original content.

“Your content needs to be original as it is both legal and ethical,” said Sweeney.

Most checks are meaningless if you are not looking at original content, he added.

Steps to evaluate Twitter accounts-

  • Check when was the account set up
  • Check earlier tweets
  • Where are the tweets from?
  • Who are their followers and whom are they following
Are profile photos original or from elsewhere
He informed the audience about KnowEm which allows you to check the use of your brand, product, personal name or username instantly on over 500 popular and emerging social media websites.

Sweeney next explained how you can verify content based on location.

How can you do this?

  • You can start off by familiarizing yourself with Google maps. Functions such rotate, tilt, zoom should be known to you.
  • You can look for street layouts, statues and monuments, architectural details, license plates etc.
  • You should watch the video the whole way through as even the smallest detail could give you the info you need.
  • You need to listen carefully as it would help you pick out place names, accents and dialects.
He explained how a perfect combination of variety, being specific, hashtags, abbreviations could make a good search term.
Sweeney taught the audience how they can find out whether a video is new of not just by looking at the keywords and checking description and comments. You can also reverse search thumbnail images and look for other videos from that scene to compare.
