'Iif we don’t build conventions, change will knock us out'

Vineet Nayar, Ex CEO HCL Technologies believes that HR is one community that has a tremendous future only if it wakes up and change its ‘manage employee’ practices to ‘inspire employee’ practices. He gave all the credit for HCL transformation to the HR leaders of the company.

In an HR Conclave organised by Bennett University, Nayar along with Raj Jain, CEO Times Group and several other industry experts indulged everyone in a very thought-provoking discussion on the challenges and opportunities the new technologies have on Human Resources (HR) and other business practices. The Conclave was an attempt to explore and understand how technology can shape HR’s future.

Manipulate minds to empower and inspire people

According to Nayar if you can manipulate the minds of people in your organization then you can inspire them, motivate them and get them to perform at levels never seen before. He briefly explained that people today don’t just want to be managed, they want to be inspired and led.

“Future belongs to the organizations which produce more innovation per unit of human intellect,” said Nayar.

Technology and leadership go hand in hand

Raj Jain had a slightly different take on the issue. He believed that technology is crucial, but it needs proper channelizing to be more effective and productive.

According to Jain technology and leadership go hand in hand to survive the change. Managing the rapid pace of change is the most important thing for HR to help an organisation move from its comfort zone to the next layer of performance.

“Technology on its own has never made a difference, leadership on its own has never made a difference but together they create real magic for a sustainable world,” quoted Jain.

The conference brought the employers and the future employees on the same page and provided them a common ground for discussion.
