AI. VR. Metaverse. That’s the direction journalism is taking, according to Pankaj Pachauri, the well-known journalist, former NDTV anchor and Media Advisor to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Pachauri was speaking on emerging media trends during the Orientation Week for freshers at Times School of Media, Bennett University.

Interacting with the freshers, Pachauri said that metaverse will be the future of journalism and one of the strongest emerging forms of media. Giving the freshers a glimpse of the media industry, Pachauri talked about the need to ensure the veracity of the information before its published. He explained the importance of fact-checked content, context and crowd sourcing in journalism.
Pachauri pointed out statistics that showed most people depend on What's App unverified group messages to get their news. He told students that media cannot depend on unverified sources and news stories should be published only if they are factually verified. He said a lot of media companies are already adopting metaverse, AI and VR in their newsrooms.
Pachauri congratulated the students for joining TSOM as he considered media as one of the largest growing industries. He said that journalism is a “saadhna” which needs full concentration and focus. He talked about how journalism started with print, moved to television, web, social media and now is moving to the metaverse.

Prof. Sunil Saxena, Head of Department, thanked Pachauri for interacting with the freshers and giving them a deep insight into the changing character of news and the emerging forms of new media.
