MSF conducts Mapathon workshop with TSOM students
Sana Beg, MSF’s South Asia Communications Director, briefs students about the workshop.
Mapathon, a workshop to create digital maps of the world’s ‘forgotten’ places by crowdsourcing, was conducted by a team from Doctors Without Borders on May 31.

The purpose of the Mapathon was to sensitize students about the many parts of the world that are vulnerable to humanitarian crises such as natural disasters, disease outbreaks, epidemics or conflict but are not mapped.

The first year BA(JMC) and BA(FTW) students, who took part in the workshop, traced maps using the tool OpenStreetMaps.

The Doctors Without Borders team was led by Sana Beg, MSF’s South Asia Communications Director. In her address to the students, she spoke about the work being done by Doctors Without Borders, better known by their French name Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), which is an international medical humanitarian organization and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. The organization has been working in India since 1999.

The students received certificates post completion of the task.
