Separate problem from its symptoms: Sidharth

“Preparing for success in the corporate sector- developing your analytical skills” was the focus of the lecture that was organised by the School of Management as a part of their CLASS (Career and Leadership Alignment for students’ success) with Sidharth Balakrishna, Chief Strategy and innovation officer, Essel Group that owns the Zee group on Thursday.

“The times today are not about collecting information but how you implement that information to prevent future losses,”said the speaker.

During the lecture, the speaker had emphasised on creative and innovative thinking and the problem solving approach are some of the key skills that are required to do well in the corporate sector.

“Real capabilities in terms of problem solving are more important than performing well in academics” said Sidharth during the lecture.

During the lecture , the speaker also had mentioned that today is the time when any person is paid for taking the correct decision.

“Most of the mundane work in terms of gathering information is done byArtificial intelligence” further mentioned Sidharth.

The speaker during the seminar also emphasised on the fact that today everyone does have the information but the results still differs is because of the decision you make after receiving the information.

“Looking at information and then taking the right decision is what is required today.” Further added Sidharth.

During the lecture, the speaker mentioned that the first step to solve any problem is to separate it from the symptoms.

“You need to ask for data and probing questions for solving problems.” Further added Sidharth.

The speaker had also mentioned that most of the problems are because people do not ask the correct questions.

The speaker had also said that once the root cause of the problem is found, solutions can be founded easily and automatically.

The speaker had further quoted the famous industry strategist Taiichi Ohno which said that “The root cause of any problem is the key to a long lasting solution”.

“It is the job of every person to find out the problem” further added Siddhartha.

“The event was indeed informative which gave us a wider insight about how to deal with problems better” said Diya, a student of MBA who had attended the seminar.
