The open mic event, organised as part of the National Youth Week on the campus to commemorate Swami Vivekananda Jayayanti, drew a huge crowd on Thursday night. Students participated is big numbers.

Members of the National Social Service Council organised the event.

“In order to celebrate Swami Vivekananda's Jayanti, we came up with the idea of celebrating National Week in Bennett University. The Open Mic was organised so that the students could get a platform to showcase their talent. More than 20 people participated, sang Bollywood songs, played instruments and narrated poems and shayari at the event. I recited a shayari on heartbreak. Overall, we enjoyed hosting the event and all the new members of NSS learnt how to organize major events too,” NSS president Vansh Gupta said.

The open mic was the 6th event in a seven-day activities organised to ensure youth engagement and learning. Before the event, posters were placed all across the campus, and emails and online forms sent to students to ensure maximum participation.

“I was the first performer at the open mic event but since I am a frequent performer, so I wasn’t nervous. I sang two songs- ‘Without me’ by Halsey and ‘Kesariya’ from the movie Brahmastra by Arijit Singh. I also played the guitar for other participants who wanted me to provide background music during their performances. It was an enjoyable experience and the environment felt supportive too as proper encouragement and mic support was provided to us” BAJMC student Prithvi Abhay said.

The three winners of the open mic event will be announced by NSS heads on January 18 and they will be given books written by Swami Vivekananda as prizes. “There were three students whose performances stood out and were the highlight of the event- Ratan and Divyansh who spoke beautiful self-composed shayari and Malika who sung a beautiful Bollywood song. They are the winners,” Shradha Grover, vice-president of social media wing of NSS, said.
