Students explore the space of traditional art
Spic Macay, the Cultural Club of Bennett University organized ‘Aesthetic Ink’, Mandala Art Competition on 10th September 2018. The participants were students from the University who love traditional drawings. The event commenced at 8:30 in the evening with enthusiastic students filling up the hall.

The main objective to host the event was not only to see the creative outlook but also to trigger the cultural and traditional thought process in the students. Students displayed their artistic skills and dedication towards this traditional art.

Speaking on the occasion, Nandana Varshney, one of the core team members from Spic Macay said, “Mandala is a form of delicate art which requires very intricate work and a lot of patience. All the participants are in for the challenge and will sit here straight for about 3 hours to draw their hearts out.” She added that Mandala is a genius technique made out of circular images filled with complex illustrations and portraits which have great meaning for Hinduism and Buddhism.

Aisha Akhtar, former secretary of Spic Macay, introduced the concept of Mandala to Spic Macay and taught it to other students at the University.
It was overwhelming to see the level of dedication in the participants. The participants witnessed strong competitions and an unexpected turnout amidst exam days. Shalvika Srivastav, a student from the School of Law said, “The main reason I took part in this competition because I really like designing and art is my passion.”

Shelly Ailawadi and Aisha Akhtar were the judges for the event. The Mandalas were assessed on the criteria like the details of the illustrations, the use of colors and the creative process behind it. The Top 5 Mandalas will be put up for an art exhibition which will be conducted by the Club. The winners were Nandana Varshney and Yash Raj, third-year students of engineering.
