Feminism is one-stop destination for gender equality

Feminism is one-stop destination for gender equality
By Shobhit Gupta

It is rightly said that feminism will make it possible for the first time for men to be free. I strongly believe that gender equality is a core factor through which it is highly likely that men get the lives what they want to live. But our long history recites a different narrative. Men, inhabiting the Martian qualities of power, competency and autonomy in a way has given a rise to male chauvinism culture which is persisting since ages. Men used to and even now resist gender equality. With the evolution of time and human development, the need of feminism and gender equality was felt, and it emerged to revolutionise the perspective towards women. I highly agree to fact that making gender visible to men is the first step of engaging men to support gender equality. Without confronting men’s sense of entitlement, there is no scope of understanding why men resist gender equality.

Gender equality benefits not only women, but it entitles its benefits to men. With better access to flexible work, they are more productive in their jobs, report higher work performance, cope better with higher workloads, have fewer absences and have lower levels of personal stress and burnout.

They are free with the stereotypical culture of men and experience an enjoyable life, take advantage of work life policies and spend more time with their families, being free to express emotions, giving themselves a healthier and happier life. When men share housework and childcare, they lead to life which they want to live. Their children score well, their rate of accomplishing tasks increase, they are happier and healthier. Their spouses are happier, they are highly likely to avoid depression and therapists, leading to higher levels of marital satisfaction. Various studies show that the gender equal countries rank on the top of the happiness index. Gender equality also gives the advantage to the organisations where women work and eventually the whole nation.
