Finances and safety in a cornered world

Finances and safety in a cornered world
By Omanshi Sabharwal

In a world designed for a white male that weighs 70kgs, women and other marginalized sections of society obviously feel alienated from it. In Invisible women, a book written by Caroline Criado- Perez, revealed that there is an exclusion of women’s needs in areas like urban planning, safety, and medicine, creating a big gap in the world already. We often speak about women safety on roads, if security and safety systems like street- lights among others were placed strategically at the time of planning, we would’ve been a step ahead in avoiding the grave crimes. Another seemingly logical understanding as an ambitious girl who wants to create a career for herself, I wonder till when we can depend on the trickle-down effect to reduce poverty. Money remains an important commodity in the world, therefore, equal pay and equal rights, eventually improve quality of life of an individual family or individual unit, it adds to the overall wealth of the country. Therefore, these are the small points due to which I think feminism is essential for the world. It creates benefits that impact the society as a whole on a daily basis.
