Does it ever happen with you that you decide to go to a café/restaurant and while ordering your friends ask you what would you like to have for dinner- Italian, Chinese, or Mexican? And you end up scratching your head because you get confused thinking is Risotto a part of Italian cuisine or Mexican? Don’t worry, I got you!
1) Italian cuisine: It is known for its simple yet flavorful dishes. A lot of fresh ingredients are used, and it varies from region to region. The most famous dishes include pizza, pasta, risotto and gelato. Pizza is a flat bread that is topped with tomato sauce, cheese, a variety of vegetables and herbs. Pasta is another staple of Italian cuisine and there are countless varieties of pasta such as Spaghetti carbonara, lasagna and fettucine alfredo. Risotto is a creamy rice dish which is mostly served as the main course dish. Minestrone soup and Tiramisu dessert are another popular dishes.
2) Chinese: It is known for its unique flavors and cooking techniques that again vary from region to region. It can be regionally categorized into eight styles like Sichuan cuisine, Cantonese cuisine, Shandong, Fujian, Hunan and Anhui. Some commonly used ingredients are rice, noodles, soy sauce, ginger, garlic and sesame oil.
3) Mexican: It is a very vibrant cuisine which is known for its bold flavors and use of fresh ingredients. Some of the most famous dishes include Tacos, enchiladas, guacamole and salsa which is characterized by spices like chilli powder, cumin, corianders etc. Mexican cuisine’s styles include Oaxacan cuisine and Yucatecan cuisine.
4)Japanese: It is a very delicate and refined tradition that is known for its fresh ingredients and minimalist presentation. It’s most famous dishes include sushi, tempura, ramen and teriyaki. It is characterized by the use of fresh seafood, rice and vegetables as well as soya sauce, mirin and sake for seasoning. It is said that the Japanese cuisine emphasizes the importance of balance and harmony in both flavor and presentation.
5) French: It is a classic and sophisticated tradition which is known for its rich flavors. The most famous dishes include coq-au-vin, bouillabaisse, ratatouille and escargot. It is characterized by these rich ingredients- butter, cream, wine and herbs such as thyme, rosemary and tarragon.
