The Golden City: Amritsar

Amritsar is a city in the northwestern Indian state of Punjab, not so far from the Pakistan border. At the center of its walled old town, the gilden Golden Temple also known as Harmandir Sahib. It is the second largest city of Punjab after Ludhiana.

Places to Visit
Sri Harmandir Sahib:-Also known as The Golden Temple, its great to plan two visits here- one in the morning/day time and the other at night to see it all lit up. It is surrounded by a pool like water body. To get into the inner temple where the holy book of Sikhism is kept, you'll need to wait in a queue which can get busy, depending on your visiting time.

Jallianwala Bagh:-This park is a nationally important memorial and represents one of the most cruel war that took place during British colonial rule of India. It is important historically, not only for the 1919 massacre, but also for the events that led to the independence for India in 1947.

Gobindgarh Fort:- It is a historic military fort located in the center of the city. The fort was occupied by the army but was opened to the public. The fort is currently being developed as a museum and a theme park. It is located in the south west fringe of Amritsar, in a square pattern and is entirely made up of bricks and lime.

Partition Museum:-It is a public museum located in the town hall. It aims to become the central repository of stories, materials, and documents related to the post-partition riots that followed the division of British India into two independent dominions India and Pakistan.

Sadda Pind Amritsar:-It is a Punjabi Culture Living Village Museum spread across 12 acres of land. It brings you a chance to experience authentic culture, colours and flavours of Punjab in one place.
