The Rollercoaster Journey of a Journalism Student

By Srishti Sharma

Chapter Five: Navigating the Highs and Lows of College Life

As a journalism student, my journey has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. There are days when I feel on top of the world, and others where I feel like everything is falling apart. It's a journey that's filled with both negative and positive emotions, but one that I wouldn't trade for anything.

College life is not easy. It's a constant struggle to maintain grades, attend lectures, complete assignments, and still have a life outside of class. As students, we feel the pressure of getting good grades and landing that perfect internship that will kickstart our careers. But what happens when things don't go as planned?

There have been times when I've received bad grades, felt lost in class, or didn't even know what was happening in the news. I've had days where I felt so anxious that I couldn't focus on anything, and moments where I felt like giving up on my dreams.

Becoming a journalist takes a lot of work, and the fear of not getting good internships or job offers can be overwhelming. But in those moments of self-doubt and anxiety, I remind myself of why I started this journey in the first place.

College life is not just about academics. We students have a life outside of classes too. Sometimes it's okay to bunk a class and have some fun with friends. Assignments should not burden us and should be limited so that we can explore other aspects of our lives. It's important to take care of ourselves mentally and emotionally, as well as academically.

Professors play a significant role in our college journey. They can be supportive mentors, guiding us through the tough times, or they can be difficult to deal with. But no matter what, they are there to help us learn and grow.

As my post-graduation diploma in digital journalism draws to a close, I feel a mix of emotions. I don't know if I'll get a good internship or job offer, or if I'll even get good grades. But that's okay. Life is full of uncertainties, and it's up to us to navigate the highs and lows. I am proud of how far I've come, and I am excited for what the future holds.

In conclusion, college life as a journalism student is not easy. It can be filled with anxiety, stress, and disappointments. But it's important to remember that every challenge we face is an opportunity to grow and learn. Balancing academics, internships, and personal life may seem overwhelming, but taking a break and having fun is just as important as studying. Our professors are there to guide us, and we should always be grateful for their support and criticism. At the end of the day, the journey of becoming a journalist is filled with ups and downs, but with passion and perseverance, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve our dreams.
