A night of culture and dance: Garba Night 2.0
By Shravak Shakya

The SPIC MACAY club organized the Garba Night 2.0 on 14 October between A and B blocks on Bennett University campus. The Chancellor of BU and Managing Director of the BCCL Group Mr Vineet Jain, along with BCCL Member Ms Rewati Jain were chief guests at the event. SPIC MACAY club had over 100 performers dressed up in colourful ghagras and chic kurtas with 11 performances lined up ahead. The traditional performances were followed by a DJ Night.

The university’s SPIC MACAY Club members practised for the event a month in advance. But they hadn’t expected such a humongous reception with around 400 people turning up for the event. This was also the first cultural event that the Chancellor and Ms. Jain had attended on campus. “We are lucky and grateful to have had Mr. Vineet Jain start off our event,” said Club Secretary Meher Dhanjal.

The event was started off by lighting of the lamp by the chief guests, Vice Chancellor Dr. Raghunath K. Shevgaonkar, Club Secretary Meher Dhanjal and Joint-Secretary Rupalika Johri. This was followed by the Garba performances on songs like ‘Odhani’, ‘Kammariya’ and ‘Ghagra’. The chief guests enjoyed the performances after which they left. The party was not over yet as the DJ took over the dance floor.

They had also decorated the B-Block with Rangolis and set up decorations like canopies, diyas and dancing matches with dandiyas, making it a photo hotspot for the night. Dhanjal expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped make the event such a success and to the crowd who sportingly sang along during a technical glitch.
