Bennett University’s cultural club, Spic-Macay, organized an event to celebrate the auspicious event ofLohri on January 14. The event was inaugurated by Senior warden Sameer Ailawadi, who lit the fire that marked the beginning of the Lohri Celebration.
The members of Spic-Macay performed choreographed songs on the event followed by a musical night ofjoy and dance for the students and families in the university.
The event allowedstudents from different corners of the country to be a part of the festivity which was culturally different bringing in the groups to celebrate ‘Lohri’ with pomp.
The night ended on a musical note as students danced to the beats of Punjabi music, providing the event with a positive reflection to look forward to.
Sameer Ailawaadi, the senior warden, who resides with his family in the campus, spoke of theFestival ’s relevance in his life by explaining, “Where I come from, Lohri is all about togetherness. While I felt the celebration lacked the zeal it deserved and there were managerial problems, I do count the effort that students made towards the festival .” He said that the execution could have been better but was pleased with the intent of the students.
Speaking to Meher Dhanjal, the secretary of Spic-Macay, she addressed the difficulties that came along with managing the event to be organized. “Since there was a budget crunch, there was a lot of pressure that we were under in order to host a successful event as a club,” she said. She pointed out that the festival was very important to be celebrated with families and students in Bennett as the university is their “ home away from home”.
“While we were facing technical glitches, it felt like the weather would turn on us as well. But I was glad that in the end, Bennettians had fun and a cultural night," Dhanjal said.
