The National Service Scheme team of Bennett University won second place in the inter-NSS event at the Institute of Home Economics of Delhi University on 12 April.

The team took part in a folk-dance competition with a 10-minute-long Bhangra performance and some members also performed solo pieces.

The team of nine practiced weeks in advance for the event. You could see them practice even until the moment they performed on stage.

“It was amazing performing the Bhangra. When I was on stage performing, all the time that I had put into practice with the group felt worth it. The moment we got to the venue and found our room, we started to rehearse and to hear the audience cheer for us, it was worth it” said Niharika Lal a second-year BAJMC student.

The Bhangra was a hit with the crowd, with calls for encore echoing around the auditorium immediately after their performance.

“I put all my energy into the performance and the best part was I could see backstage that the other teams were dancing along, and the crowd was going crazy for us. They started chanting ‘once more, once more’ and it was amazing,” said Kashish Chaturvedi a first-year BTECH student.

This event was an opportunity taken by all nine members of the team to grow and try something new.

“I love dancing, but I also suffer from stage fright and Vasant was a chance to perform in front of people. Having a group with me really helped. The moment the performance ended and I could hear the audience cheer it felt good,” said Sumaira Berry, a second-year BAJMC student.

The team went to the event representing Bennett University and with their spectacular performance they left a lasting impression.

“I am glad to have been a part of this event representing Bennett, and with the way the audience responded to the performance I am sure they will remember our university and look forward to more of our performances,” said Kashish Chaturvedi.
