BU students soak in Holi colours and spirit

Gulaal, gujiya and loads of fun marked the Holi celebrations at Bennett University on 19th March. The football field on campus was transformed into a site of festivities. The organisers, the Cultural Committee, provided the students with gulaal (coloured powder), food and fruit juices. There was also the traditional Holi drink, thandai – cold milk served with almonds, cardamom, saffron and sugar.

Divyansh Khera of 1st year B. Tech told Times of Bennett that he had high expectations from the event. “This will be my first Holi at Bennett. I’ve heard a lot about the Holi celebrations here through my seniors and I’m excited to see what’s in store for me.”

The event commenced as up-beat Bollywood songs began to play through the speakers. People soon started dancing, scooping the gulaal in their hands and smearing it all over each other. Many even tried to escape the clutches of their friends in an attempt to save themselves from the splashes of colour.

It was an evening of fun and laughter. Even as the students ran out of gulaal, they did not let it dampen their spirits. Instead, they splashed their drinks at each other, owing to the lack of water to play with, and danced their feet off as the DJs played some popular Holi songs.

Danish Hashmi of 1st year BBA said, “This was the first time I played Holi with so many people. It was a new but enjoyable experience. I also tried drinking thandai for the first time, but I didn’t like it much. If the event was during day, I would have enjoyed better.”

All students greatly enjoyed the event and could be seen leaving with smiles on their faces. “It was very good! There were drinks and eatables like gujiya (a stuffed, deep-fried sweet), and a great selection of music. I enjoyed a lot and I’m already looking forward to next year’s Holi,” expressed Ananya Thakur of 1st year BA-LLB.
