ISAC, the media club of Bennett University, organised a photography competition on the occasion of Diwali.

‘Noor: The magic of light’ took place from 1st November to 5th November, 2021 and the theme of ‘Noor’ was centred around the depiction of the ‘Festival of Lights’.

Siddhant Luthra, a second-year BBA student followed by Aditi Paranjpe, a third-year BA-JMC student of Bennett University grabbed the Alpha and Sigma, that is, the first and second positions in the competition, respectively. Beta, the third position, was seized by Debtanu Seth, a third-year Civil Engineering PhD student of IIT-Delhi.

“Photography to me is more than a passion or a dream profession. Photography feels liberating to me. It makes me happy. Even the dullest of days become hopeful and bright when I hold my camera in my hand,” Siddhant, the winner of the competition, said.

“Getting appreciated for my work as a photographer is just like a cherry on top. So, thank you so much for giving me this wonderful honour,” the second-year BBA student at Bennett University added.

Aditi said, “A festival like Diwali is always an opportunity to click beautiful images. I enjoyed a lot participating in the event and it's always wonderful when your work is appreciated. I look forward to more such events by ISAC”.

Along with these three posts, ISAC also came up with three special mentions on their social media page.

Shashwat Gokha, a second-year Chemical Engineering student from IIT-Delhi, received the first special mention followed by Yash Bisht, a third-year BA-JMC student of Bennett University. The third special mention was received by Joy Singhaal, a first-year BA-JMC student of Bennett University.

The total number of entries for the competition stood at 78 across a span of five days with 54 people taking part and each one being allowed to send a maximum of two entries.

Vartika Madan, the Secretary of the club and a third-year Journalism and Mass Communication student, shared her experience of managing the event.

“As a person who has managed multiple events with ISAC for two years, I was pretty much aware about the official protocol. Although, handling an event as a club head was a different experience, every minute detail had to be taken care of and managed by me,” she said.

“To get more responses, we opened this event to outside universities. We used both quantitative and qualitative measures to analyse an event, but our focus is primarily on quality,” Vartika added.

The competition was open for all students and gauged entries from IIT-Delhi, Mumbai University, Delhi University and Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad University of Technology, apart from Bennett University.

The criteria for the selection of winners included creativity, composition, frame and title of the photograph.

The submission of photographs was acceptable through email, Google Form and Instagram.
