Mics of Fall: Poetry and music take over Bennett
Bennett University, on Wednesday was swept away in the power of poetry and music, during the Mics of Fall, an open-mic organized by Cerebrum, the Literary Club of the University. The theme for this year was Indie and Jazz. The evening was also graced by the participation of members from Pratisandhi, an NGO working for LGBTQ rights.

The second edition of this series of open mics was markedly special due to contributions of enthusiastic artists. Mohit Arora and Rajat Sood gave rib-tickling performances and won the hearts of the audience with their humour. Akash Narayan and Sarthak gave the evening the much-needed dose of soul – stirring music complemented with a performance by Shlok Gera on the Cajon.

“The Mics of Fall is an event we all wait for all year round. I had attended the one last year as well, and it has only improved. It is so good to see the talent in our college and especially of your friends are up on the stage and performing. Events like these bring out the true essence of college life,” said Sanskriti Mehta, a third-year law student who has been a loyal audience to the open mic for the last two years.

The real energizers of the evening where the performances by the students of the University. More quick-witted and hilarious sets on our college lives, which left the audience hysterical with laughter. Poetry on topics ranging from love and heartbreak to mental health leaving us all with some serious food for thought. This time around, these artists blurred the boundaries of orthodox pieces of art by adding a flavor of humor to their poems and even their songs.

To complement the wonderful atmosphere created by these performances, was the taste of the famous Indian handicrafts market, Dilli Haat. The team has organized stalls of the famous Dilli Haat hair braiding and some offering a range of beautiful ethnic Indian earrings. Students had also some together so set up a stall for chilled malt beer by Coolberg and a stall with refreshments.

“As part of the literary club, we find it our duty to let the college know the power of art, be it in any form. The Mics of Fall is a platform for all students to have a safe stage to put forth their pieces of art, someplace they can be unhindered,” said Ayera Choudhary, core member of the Cerebrum club.

The Mics of Fall is a tradition started by the club where the college comes together, on a pleasant fall evening, to revere the power of words and music. The evening came alive with the diverse set of performances ranging from poetry to instrumental music to stand-up comedy. The setting with the decorations and lighting was a bonus.
