Students battle it out on Ping Pong table
Bennett University’s sports committee hosted its Ping Pong tournament (doubles) for the first time this year. The winners of the event this year were Shouvik and Gaurang Mandavkar. This time the format of the tournament was- Doubles and Mixed doubles. The Ping Pong Tournament started with great enthusiasm and excitement which was written large across the faces of all the participants.

A total of four groups were made, each of which had four teams each. The total 16 teams which participated had to compete with each other to stay on the top of the point table for their respective groups to stay ahead. After the initial rounds only the top two teams of each group advanced to the quarterfinals and semi-finals.

Once the quarterfinals ended, we had our finalists who were C R Niteshwar and Mukund Mundhra Vs Shouvik and Gaurang Mandavkar for the Doubles finals. For the Mixed Doubles finals, the finalists were Mukund Mundhra and Shirin Mirza Vs Divyansh Gupta and Tanvi Khanna. The finalists had to play against each other to win the maximum number of sets of the seven sets given.

The finals were filled with excitement and were a treat to watch as all the players tried their level best to clench the title of the winners. As the saying goes, “there can be only winner”, we had our winners finally in the end. For the doubles finale, Shouvik and Gaurang Mandavkar bagged the title of the winners by defeating C R Niteshwar and Mukund Mundhra by a score of 7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 8-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-8.

In the mixed doubles category Mukund Mundhra and Shirin Mirza emerged as winners by defeating Divyansh Gupta and Tanvi Khanna by a score of 6-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8, 11-2.

C R Niteshwar who is the Table Tennis captain of the university said, “At first I thought we won’t be able to put up a successful tournament as a lot of things had to be managed together. I really made a lot of efforts to stitch everything together which made this whole event a success.”

The Ping Pong Tournament not only increased the spirit of sportsmanship in the students but also inculcated high levels of professionalism in the participants
