Focusing on the theme ‘Run for #ChildRights’, Bennett University’s annual marathon, Bennethon was specially organized for the students, faculty members, and staff on Tuesday.

There were various winners in both the male and female categories amongst the faculty and students. Among the male faculty and staff, the gold was won by Rohtosh (Pantry), Silver by Pradeep Kumar (Security), and Bronze by Anshuman Jaswal (School of Management). Among the female faculty and staff, the gold was won by Gehna Bhist (Admin), Silver by Pooja Kumari (Security), Bronze by Neeti Nirwal (Department of Biotechnology).

The real competition, however, was between the students, wherein Vihan Tyagi won the Gold, Roshan Sharma scored a silver Joseph Anthony received a bronze among male students. Among the female students, Avishka Sharma, Shruti Jha and Gazal Gupta were the winners, respectively.

“I just finished the marathon and came first amongst the girls. My takeaway from this marathon is, first, to not give up in between and second is to not have a competition only with girls but with guys as well. To be very honest, girls are not really my competition. So, my goal is just to keep practicing, enjoying and keep improving every day,” said Avishka Sharma, 2nd year B. Tech.
As the marathon ended, participants and spectators gathered around the stage. Ex-sports secretary Chandu Appasani thanked everyone for participating, with special mention to Dean of Student Affairs, Milind Padalkar. He then went on to welcome the chief guest, retired amateur Indian freestyle wrestler, Arjuna awardee, and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Uttar Pradesh, Anuj Kumar Chaudhary. The chief guest was then presented with welcome gifts and posed for pictures with the sports committee of the university.

In all 280 participants put their best foot forward for the marathon in Greater Noida to emerge as true champions of a social cause. There was fun and excitement and camaraderie, but it was the theme of the marathon which held the centre stage.

Pavneet Singh of BJMC 2nd year said, “I participated in this marathon just to have fun and support the cause. I’m not really a runner but I strongly believe in social causes like child rights so as soon as I had heard of this marathon, I decided that I was definitely going to run.”
