The Times School of Media (TSOM), Bennett University, organised an Industry Workshop on Event Management on Friday, 12th September 2025, from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM at 005 NCB. The workshop was conducted byMr Anand Bisaryaa, Founder & Director of Elegante World, a leading experiential and event management company. He was accompanied by his team members, Ms Dipanjali Thapa (Associate – Social Media) and Ms Parkhi Mahajan (Junior Creative Strategist, and a Bennett alumna). The session was opened by Prof. Shruti Jain , sharing her long association with Mr Anand , highlighting his persistence, professionalism, and creativity that have earned him respect in the industry.
The workshop aimed to give students hands-on exposure to event planning and strategy, directly supporting their preparation forJhol 6.0, the school’s live event management exam.
Mr Anand began by encouraging interaction and asked students to share their most memorable events, using their answers to explain how everyone can connect to events. He then shared his own career journey—from hotel management and hospitality to building Elegante World and Conestilo Weddings. Simplifying textbook definitions, he described event management as “from ideation to execution of any planned occasion”, stressing the importance of keeping things simple.
The session was structured around hands-on activities:
Event Planning Exercise – Students were divided into eight teams and given coded chits with event elements. Each team had to identify the correct event combinations of brief, venue, entertainment, and audience. Though initially chaotic, this exercise revealed the importance of reading and understanding briefs, asking questions, and collaborating effectively. Anand noted it was the “most chaotic” round he had seen in five years, turning the moment into a fun but powerful lesson.
Pitch vs. Proposal: Students analysed real pitches prepared by the Elegante team for M&S and Mars, to identify which ones succeeded and which ones did not. This activity clarified the differences between the two, highlighting ingredients of a winning pitch such as clarity, creativity, and alignment with client needs.
Crisis Management Case Studies: Real-life case studies from Elegante events were presented. Students tackled real scenarios, including a missing MD’s room at a resort and a cancelled maiden cruise. These highlighted the importance of preparation, backups, insurance, and owning up to mistakes when necessary.
Throughout, Mr Anand kept the session lively with relatable movie clips from 3 Idiots and The Wolf of Wall Street. Students were rewarded with gifts an
d chocolates for correct answers, making the experience both fun and meaningful.
The key takeaways included understanding and clarifying briefs, never assuming, communicating effectively, under-committing and over-deliver, focusing on detail, maintaining backups, and building lasting client relationships.
Mr Anand closed the session by saying, “Every event is either a story to tell or a reference for the future.”
The workshop ended with a group photograph and a handmade card presented to Mr Anand as a token of appreciation. It was an enriching, interactive, and inspirational learning experience, reinforcing the importance of creativity, professionalism, and problem-solving in the dynamic field of event management.
