After two gruelling years of anticipation, the trailer for the second season ofPercy Jackson and the Olympians has finally arrived.
An adaptation of the belovedRick Riordan book, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters , the trailer offers us a glimpse of what audiences can expect. Our characters, no longer naive and clueless, find themselves facing an impending challenge, the quest to save their home, Camp Half-Blood. This season's shift in urgency and tone is reflected in the gritty, dark, gloomy, ominous nature of the shots.
With glimpses of raging thunderstorms, serpentine creatures, terrifying Stymphalian birds, pegasi, and high-stakes chariot races, the new season promises a significant escalation in stakes and spectacle.
After Camp Half-Blood’s protective border is breached, thirteen-year-oldn year old Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell ) embarks on an epic odyssey into the Sea of Monsters to rescue his satyr friend Grover (Aryan Simhadri) from the cyclops Polyphemus and find the one thing that may save the camp - the legendary Golden Fleece.
With help from fellow campers Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), Clarisse (Dior Goodjohn)) and his newfound cyclops half-brotherTyson (Daniel Diemer), Percy’s survival becomes essential to stopping Luke, the Titan Kronos, and their impending plan to bring down Camp Half-Blood and ultimately, Olympus.
Season two sees the return of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jason Mantzoukas, Glynn Turman, Virginia Kull, Adam Copeland and Toby Stephens. Timothy Simons, Courtney B. Vance, Andra Day, Sandra Bernhard, Margaret Cho, Kristen Schaal, Rosemarie DeWitt and Aleks Paunovic too join the ensemble this season.
“They take care of each other, that’s what real heroes do,” Walker Scobell echoes as the titular character Percy, reminding viewers that the heart of the show remains intact amidst all the action.
The mythical beings come across as larger than life, almost like they could be leaping out of the screens and into the real world.
This can be attributed to this season’s limited use of the ‘Volume Stage’ as opposed to the first. Designed by Industrial Light & Magic, it uses a video wall and virtual technology to simulate environments indoors. However, with a lot of Season 2 taking place on the water (as evident by the trailer as well), executive producer CraigSilverstein shared that the crew knew ahead of time that they had to create a practical set instead.
“This is not a road trip across America in Greyhound buses and stopping at diners and the St. Louis Arch — they sail off the map, straight into the Sea of Monsters, which doesn’t exist. We had to create it at all. We had to make it even bigger,” explained Silverstein in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Much to fan's delight, Disney renewed the TV show for a third season ahead of Season 2’s premiere. Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie have joined Season 3 as siblings Nico and Bianca di Angelo, children of Hades.
From the looks of it, latest season promises to deliver mind melting action sequences, an absolute must-watch for die-hardard fans of the books. With Camp Half-Blood under threat, only one question remains on everyone's mind - Will Percy and his friends be able to save their home?
The two-episodeisode premiere is set to arrive on Disney+ and Hulu on December 10, 20252025, with new episodes rolling out every Wednesday.
