“The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she knows.” ―Audrey Hepburn
AudreyHepburn a British actress and humanitarian was recognised as both a film and a fashion icon. Hepburn originally wanted to be a dancer, but despite training at the Rambert Ballet School in London , she took a different path in life. She started acting to make money, but her talent and beautiful looks in the field caught the attention of audiences. The fashion world was fascinated by Audrey’s body type, a film critic Molly Haskell , said “She set her own pace and style with a look that decidedly ran counter to then-prevailing standards of female beauty. She was patrician, exotic, and boyishly slender at a time when the accent was on big-breasted bombshells and girl-next-door types.” She felt that society moved from focusing on sex to focusing on femininity. She did not believe in becoming a “slave to fashion,” she did not like buying new clothes every few months just to follow the trends that were popular and said that clothes should be of good quality and believed that “less is more”. She preferred not to wear flashy or showy clothing, as she did not want to be seen as better than anyone. The French word “depouille,” which in Audrey’s words means, “without ornament…with everything stripped away” and that’s what she believed in, many of her fashionable friends helped create the now iconic Audrey Hepburn like Edith Head, Cecil Beaton, Alberto de Rossi, and Hubert de Givenchy Audrey felt that she and Hubert were very similar and that they both had an appreciation for simplicity and were sensitive people. She said, “There’s a purity about his clothes, but always with a sense of humor.” Perhaps one of the reason the world was so fascinated by her was because of her beauty and style that were not shallow. Her looks were not just cardboard cut-outs but were a display of her soul and her personality. From the start, she was compassionate both tough and soft at the same time Out of the many icons that will come and go, Audrey Hepburn is the one who deserves to stand the test of time.
